LOOGY love

You asked who the Cards might pursue for lefty help? Looks like a couple of true LOOGYs top their list, according to the PD.

Will Ohman, 31, with the Braves last season, had an ERA+ of 116. Through his career, he's held lefties to .197/.285/.319 while righties have hit him better than Cardinal middle infielders to the tune of .262/.359/.397. He's reportedly looking for a 2 to 4 year deal worth $4 million per.

Arthur Rhodes, 39, older than dirt in baseball terms, Rhodes would be cheaper than Ohman. He's pure LOOGY too, holding left-handed hitters to a .157/.253/.200 line while righties hit .309/.381/.327 against him last year.

LOOGYs are fine, but not worth overpaying for.

Great to see you back on a regular basis, RVB!

What do you consider overpaying for a LOOGY? Is $4 mil per a little much? That seems to be the going rate.

Really wouldn't mind seeing both of these guys in Birds uniforms next year, might solidfy a shaky bullpen. Still need that big guy at the back of the pen and worried that Perez may not be it. We shall see.

I think $4M is a bit much for a LOOGY (left-handed one out guy, practically invented by TLR). that's what made the Affeldt deal so sweet. turthfully, I don't give a shit. It's not my money. The only reason it really bugs me anymore when the Cardinals do this stuff, is then they won't pay for good help where they need it...like 2B or SS etc.

Knowing TLR as we do, I would suggest that Arthur Rhodes is his kind of guy. I would also suggest that Rhodes could not possibly be as bad as last years loogys could he?

As far as overpaying in the free agent market, we are also well aware of DeWitt's deep pockets and notoriously short arms.

I see Rhodes wearing the Birds on the Bat, no doubts. It's just a good fit and there's mutual interest.

Again, all of it is a mood point if we don't have that 9th inning arm to solidify things. We tried the committee thing last year, didn't work. Whiteyball is dead.

It would be nice to have Ohman, but I would honestly be surprised.

It still irks me that we aren't even discussing Furcal at SS. Give me Furcal and platoon 2b with Miles and {insert anyone here}.

I still would love to see the Big Unit taking shots for us next year, getting 300 in the sea of red.

I fear that we will sign Rhodes and scrape the barrel for another LOOGY, a 2b no one is even talking about right now, pick up some P.O.S. SS in exchange for Kennedy and start talking about how cool it will be to have the All Star Game in St. Louis.

Hell, I think Hooks might be playing short next year at this rate.
