McGee And Edmonds Elected To Cardinals HoF; Forsch Out

From the STL Cardinals Communications Department:

ST. LOUIS, MO (April 30, 2014) – The St. Louis Cardinals announced that  Jim Edmonds, Willie McGee, Mike Shannon and Marty Marion will be inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame presented by Edward Jones on Saturday, August 16th. This is the first induction class since the team dedicated the Cardinals Hall of Fame with an Inaugural Class on Opening Day in St. Louis earlier this month.

And, of course, we predicted it all wrong.

We got the McGee pick correct. But missed Edmonds, predicting instead Bob Forsch would get in. Here’s what we said:

“Cardinals fans are many things, including wildly sentimental. If enough people over 50 discover this online voting link, Forsch gets in. If not, Edmonds will get voted in. But posthumously honoring Forsch will feel right to most people voting.”

Looks like the Cardinals HoF internet voting thingy is a young fans game. And we did cover our bases and get the Edmonds contingency play right.

Also, if you’re not familiar with Marty Marion, here’s his 2011 obituary from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
