5-3 wins over bad division foes are not the kind of games that Buzz Bissinger writes tomes about. Hell, he probably wouldn’t even Tweet about it.
You know, if he was still on Twitter.
Still, the Cardinals pushed their record over .500, took the series and are still withing spittin’ distance of the Brewers. They bounced back after getting worked over Monday night.
The Braves come to town this weekend. And while their 22-17 record and place atop the NL East suggest nothing that the Cardinals should be happy about seeing, looks can be deceiving.
In fact, when we get a little miffed at the lack of offense the Cardinals produce, we just need to remember it could be worse. We could be watching the Astros. Or… the Braves.
That’s a b-r-u-t-a-l stat line for a contender 1/4 of the way into the season. Especially with the Upton brothers and Jason Heyward in the lineup. FYI – 30th is last place.
The Cardinals throughout the 2014 season (sans Tyler Lyons last start) have been pitching well. And the Braves are due for some win regression from their current perch 5 games over .500.
Maybe, just maybe, the presumptive NL Central champs are ready to get over the hump.
